5 Tips to Creating The Ultimate Bachelor Pad Posted: 03 May 2012 12:14 AM PDT The dictionary definition of a 'bachelor' is a man who isn't and hasn't ever been married. Society's definition, however, is a lot more creative. A bachelor is a man who can effortlessly throw peanuts into his mouth. His shoes are always shiny, irrespective of the weather. He exudes je ne sais quoi. Being a bachelor is a lifestyle, and no lifestyle is complete without an aptly furnished 'pad'. Being a bachelor, you can get away with a few clichés – a bit of red here and there, a flat screen television – but if you want your home to be the epitome of impressive, there are some things that you just can't neglect. (Images provided by Mark, thanks.) Hot tubs are synonymous with luxury – and even when you're having a low-key evening after work, they're still a great way to unwind, relax and soothe those aching muscles after a hard day of being a bachelor. Prices of hot tubs and spas are really affordable these days, with high street shops such as Argos selling hot tubs for sale. They come in a range of shapes and sizes, as well as outdoor and indoor types. Hot tubs are the ultimate conversation starter – they're stylish and a little bit overboard – perfect for bachelor pads. King-Sized Bed
The bed is central to every home, not just a bachelor's. It's not only where the magic happens, but it's crucial to getting a good night's sleep for another long day of smelling like heaven and looking like you've come straight from an aftershave advert. Dark wood and deep red sheets may play a little too close to the stereotype, but as long as it's elegant, king-sized and unbelievably comfortable you're heading in the right direction. Ensure that there's substantial and convenient lighting nearby, too – such as some modern bedside lights. A well-equipped kitchen A bachelor's kitchen needs to be well-equipped, minimalistic and modern. Whatever the bachelor activity, they always come in useful and you don't want to fall short. A few beers for friends, some fancy nibbles for a dinner party or breakfast in bed – there'll always be an occasion were an efficient kitchen will come in handy. Think: giant oven, modern taps, sleek fridge freezer and black and white tiling. Acoustics Any bachelor worth his salt knows how to impress his guests – and that's through the magic of sound. Any company you have will appreciate music that is well-suited to the occasion and sounds clear and crisp. This means investing in a good sound system. There's no doubt that your guests will be of a discerning calibre, so in order to achieve good acoustics you need a good-quality speaker system and an even better music collection. Personality
A bachelor pad needs to be minimalistic and pristinely clean. There needs to be some hint of a giveaway, though. The perfect bachelor is understated, modest and self-effacing. Therefore, your taste and interests need to be subtly on display. A book here and there, a few photos on the wall and some artwork wouldn't go amiss. Of course, some of these may be only part of your 'if I win the lottery' fantasy. Even though you may not be able to afford a completely lavish bachelor pad with all of the trimmings, rest assured that the most fundamental ingredient to being a modern-day bachelor starts in the mind. |
